Worm control is vital for healthy animals within your herd or flock but overuse of wormers has caused worms to become resistance and this can cause problems within your animals.
The British Veterinary Association guidelines show that using a worm egg count to identify which animals are carrying the worm burden and then only worming those animals with the appropriate wormer can help to alleviate this problem.
Carrying out a worm egg count will help to justify the need for worming and will also check the efficiency of on-farm control of parasites.
We require a sample of faeces so that we can examine it under a microscope to count the number of worm eggs present. The worm egg count will show if there is a worm burden in your livestock.
We can also screen for lungworm and liver fluke for animals that we have identified as being at risk.
